PRIME MINISTER NGIRENTE OFFICIATED THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE GENERATION CONNECT GLOBAL YOUTH SUMMIT
Kigali, June 2, 2022- Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente officiated the opening ceremony of the first ever Generation Connect Global Youth Summit. This Summit took place at Intare Conference Arena as part of the ongoing International Telecommunication Union World Telecommunication Development Conference (ITUWTDC).
In his keynote address, the Prime Minister highlighted the critical role that young people are playing all over the world in bridging the digital divide and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
He noted that the digital economy presents massive economic opportunities but in order to fully tap into these opportunities, there is a need to ensure that no one is left behind.
Prime Minister revealed that Rwanda has embraced the use of digital technologies as an engine of transformation and targets to achieve digital literacy of at least 60% among adults by 2024.
He stressed the importance of global cooperation in tapping into available opportunities and addressing global challenges. He called upon the youth to unite and build a digital economy that is inclusive to every person from any corner around the World.
